Is there a way to display the "created by" column for administrators and certain security roles only?

I tried using "Display All Columns" permission but that does nothing for administrators and for the specified security roles.

We want to allow users to add a record that is anonymous to most other users, but their username should be visible to those with permission to see who created the record.

Of note I tried the "view" setting as well as the "edit" setting for the page.

(i.e. we have an apartment complex that has its residents anonymously report license plates of parking violators on the website, but we only want the property manager to be able to view who filed the report.  They can do this by clicking on each record individually, but it'd be easier to see who issued the report within the list display).

I've tried making the "Created by" a restricted field to see if it will show it to administrators. 
I've tried every possible combination of permissions, "Negate permission/feature "Display All Columns" for Administators" and making the "Created by" field restricted and unrestricted, etc...

There doesn't seem to be a way to show the "Created by" field (within the list) to administrators only.  Do you have a step by step suggestion on how to do this?
