While this app may not be for everyone, those interested in the integration of DotNetNuke and mobile platforms may want to check it out.  The application utilizes web services to take advantange of data stored within the forms and List module.  The App can be downloaded via the App Store by simply searching with the keyword "Boat Ramps".  Press release below.

If you have a chance and a iPhone download the app and let me know what you think.

If you have any questions, comments, or ways I may be able to improve the application, let me know.

Thanks.

Derek

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
Boat Ramps – iPhone Application
Boat Ramps is a user-driven application that provides the fastest way to locate boat ramp and launching facilities. Boat Ramps provides an easy to use interface that places a database of over 10,000 ramps at your fingertips.

With ease Boat Ramps will provide a list of ramps in proximity to your current location. The proximity and number of results can be configured to fine tune the results of your search.

Boating away from your current location? No problem. Simply enter the desired location's zip code or select a city and Boat Ramps will provide you a list of possible ramps to launch your vessel.

How to get there? Once a ramp of interest is located its location can be fed to the built-in Maps application to obtain directions.

Currently Boat Ramps only provides boat ramp locations within the United States. Ramp locations for additional countries may be added at a later date. Boat Ramps requires the iPhone OS 3.0 to run.

Great stuff Derek! I can't afford the $1.19 but the screesnhots look good.

So... spill the beans - how did you make it - using something like MobiNuke or a scaled down portal.

Who did you skin?

I am considering abandoning Mobinuke as support is extremely slow and there's no active roadmap or new development. It's a pity but I have to think about the longterm...

Rodney,

The application itself (what you see in the screenshots) is written completely in Objective C as this is not a web application but instead an iPhone application that takes advantage of DNN for the purpose of administrative functionality, i.e. entering / modifying / deleting data.  This application combines the use of DNN 5.1.2 and the forms and List module for administrative functionality and database storage with a set of custom ASP.NET Web Services and Stored Procedures that query that DNN database for the data provided by the application.  I just wanted to illustrate that DNN doesn't alway have to be used in its entirety but instead parts of the framework and its modules can be used to more than adequately provide a great solution to just about what ever problem / opportunity you may encounter.

If you have any additional questions, email me at dtrauger@derektrauger.com.

Thanks.

Derek

Ah, I see... that makes sense (I don't think there are any webapps in the AppStore).

Good stuff anyway!
