I am trying to control the width of my root menu items.  I want the buttons to auto adjust in size, but if an item exceeds a certain length, I want the text to wrap to limit the width of the menu item.

I have used max-width in this way:

.mainMenu .root
{
white-space:normal;
max-width: 150px;
}

This works in all current browsers except IE.

Does anyone have a workaround/hack for this?

Hm as white-space: normal; is the default its not necessary to be declared in this case.

And as I know IE in its latest version has no trouble in interpreting max-width. I think a little bit of more background information would be helpful.
