The client has requested that all users in our DB get an email notification when a new post is created. They might even want notification of every reply as well, I'm not sure about that - but for new posts, is it possible to run a SQL script over a table (or two) to force email notification of new posts to all users?

I have googled for this and tried to search here but it keeps timing out. Does anyone have any pointers for me?

It's easy - I just did this.  Login as Admin.  Go to the Forum page and click on "Admin" at the top of the module,  Click on Forums and then Forum Manager.  Select the Forum you wish to change and click on the Edit button.  Select Options.  Change the Forum Type to "Announcement" (click on the "?" to see the types and what they do).  Then click on the appropriate box or boxes in the Notifications column for the Roles you want to get emails.  Click Update at the bottom and you're done.

Is there any way to make the announcement happen for the post itself only and not on replies?

I would like to let the members to be able to select by themself if they want notifications on replies.
