I'm a total newbie to DotNetNuke, finally got it installed on IIS hosting environment under a folder in the root called DNN.  I didn't want to install DNN directly to the root directory, because I want my existing website available while I'm evaluating DNN.  Also, I don't want to risk converting my root directory to a web application, in case it screws up my existing site.

My question: is it possible to place the default.aspx directly and have it point content in DNN folder without creating a response.redirect script?  In other words, I'd like the user to type in myurl.com and have it seamlessly access the DNN framework at myurl.com/DNN.  There's probably something really simple that I'm not seeing here, but any help would be appreciated ... go easy on this noob, thanks! lol

I think you only have three options here:

  1. Use Response.Redirect...
  2. If you have a Firewall that can do URL manipulation then you can try making it "Look" like it is in the site root.
  3. Once you are ready to move to DNN, simply relocate it in the root and update the Portal Alias so the new/root URL is used

I would go with option three myself.

You can assign any domain to any location on your server.  You should be able to set up a dnn.mysite.com to point to your /dnn/ folder.  Just set this up as an IIS application in your configuration.

When you've decided to move your site over, then just add the www.mysite.com to the list of portal aliases, and update your IIS configuration so that your 'old' domain now points to your dnn site.  You won't have to change the path to your site.

When you switch over from your existing site to your new dnn site, don't forget you'll need to handle all of the old urls with redirects to the new DNN equivalent pages.
