Hello,

I'm using Store Catalog modules set to use a default category.

I've noticed that the category ID of the default category is added automatically to the query string.

This is problematic for two reasons: First, I guess it is impossible to display two different category views in the same page;
Secondly, the main problem I have right now is that I cannot control the URL for SEO needs. Even my home page's URL is /Home/category/24.aspx.

Does anybody know a way to avoid this behaviour?

Thanks in advance,

Amir

Hi Amir,

The categoryID is added to a page when a default category is defined in the Store Catalog module settings or when a category is selected by user in the Store Menu module. This is by design and you can't avoid this. If your home page url contains a categoryID it's because you use the Store Catalog module on this page. Moreover, it's really important for SEO to have a different URL for each category.

You'r right, you can't use several Store Catalog module on the same page! Why do you need this? I have never seen an online Store displaying more than one category at a time! Please show me a sample.

After several years of services dedicated to the community, I begin to be tired to read requests without any form of politeness.

 Hi Gilles,

I'm using default categories on pages where the user has no way to change the category (unless he's familiar with DNN and he'll add a CategoryID directly in the URL...). For example I build a special page for each category with special content or modules, and display its products below. For that reason hiding the CategoryID will not affect my SEO.

Using several store catalogs is good for special pages, like a landing page where i want to display featured products from several cateogries in different areas, again, without letting the user to switch category.

Anyway, if this is by design the only thing I can do is using the Featured Products list for my homepage, but the category pages will have to contain the category ID in their URL...
