First off, Tam is doing a great job along with others who are working on this module.  There are still several issues with the AD module as we all know.  Please post here if you and your company would be willing to pay for support of this module, so that we might send a message to the DNN administration that this module is important and an influential way to garner revenue from the people that have the most of it, corporations.

My company isn't willing to pay for anything that is why we are using DNN.  I would say that if some simple documentation of the implementation was created, then maybe many of questions would be answered.

I can understand that businesses want to invest as little as possible, but I find it foolhardy to expect to spend nothing.  I suppose you haven't purchased a single DNN module?

Try asking yourselves why this particular module has so little documentation and gets so little focus on improvement?  Most large scale open source initiatives have some sort of commercial backend.  The commercial part of the open source initiative is there to help provide corporate support.  This model is easily seen in both Linux and MySQL.  Both of which have excellent corporate use track records.

How then can we expect DNN to become a usable corporate application if we're not willing to financially help support it?

We would certainly be prepared to pay for an easy solution to using Windows authentication with DNN4 on our intranet. The current set up is obviously difficult to set up and fraught with problems.
We are in the process of upgrading to AD, and have given up hope of ever getting a simple NT Domain implentation.
Hopefully it will be as simple as clciking on the windows authentication, and using AD groups in the security roles. Individual user registration would add nothing for us as long as we can pick up the logged in user info.
DNN may be 'free', but we often buy new modules, and invest significant (and expensive) resources in setting up and using the results. Most businesses are used to paying for support of their key IT systems - but this means more direct contact than a user group posting.

I personally, have bought modules.  But my business has not.  They look at Sharepoint and say, "Hey it's free" and it looks the same and they see the price.

I had to debate hard to use DNN instead of sharepoint, but the reason they went that direction was because of free modules, open source and good community.

It seems to me if the Active Directory authentication piece was documented just a little bit, it would be easy for people like myself, to simply go in and make the changes.

What bothers me is that it is in the core and there isn't even easy finable instructions on how to use it.  I know Tam is out, but it still seems like it has been rushed to market a bit.

With that said, I am a huge DNN fan, and I have used Tams Gallery and Forums from long ago.  I just wish it was better documented and I think that I am allow to have that wish.
