Hi,

We are building a DNN site under a temporary url, so that the old site will be available as long as we're not finished. We will change hosts with this project as well. I am a bit worried about what will be the necessary steps before and after we change the dnsrecords from the old server to the new one.

I just added a portal alias, so that there are two of them in the list: the temporary url and the actual domainname, which we will use when going live. That domainname is on the second place.

Is this the only step we have to take before going live? While building the new site, occassionaly we see the temporary url in urls to pages or links. Will that automatically translate in the real domainname, when we go live and visit the site using this URL?

Are any other steps to take before going live in this sort of situation?

Thanks,

Ron

I think you are good to go.  Everywhere where the link is generated by DNN you should be fine.  Of course you need to be careful of NOT typing in any fully qualified links as you buyild the site.

If u do find some of the temp URL's hard coded check out the free Engage software tool 'F3' which can do a search and replace through the Text/HTML modules

Thank you. All went fine and of course there were a couple of hard coded url's to take care of , but going live went well.

Thanks,

Ron
