There may be no "SEO requirement" that dashes actually remain but, it’s better to use dashes to separate the words so that search engines can individually recognize them, rather than seeing them as one long, unintelligible word. Dashes are the most SEO friendly punctuation to separate the words in your page filenames.

Example:
www.mysite.com/sculptornamesculptorsurname.aspx
www.mysite.com/sculptor-name-sculptor-surname.aspx

The standard dnn friendly url provider removes all punctuation from the tab name prior to saving it in the 'tabpath' variable.  You won't find anything in the Friendly Url Provider code to adjust for this, because it's working from the tabpath variable when in human friendly mode.

I believe the reason that the punctuation is removed is because the remaining tabpath value is Url Encoded before being saved in the TabPath column of the Tabs table. Therefore, if you modified the code that removes the hyphens, it should still be OK because the hyphens don't get Url Encoded.  The change could be to swap out all the punctuation replacment with only those values that aren't Url-safe.

Greetings. I have been trying to accomplish the same goal for SEO requirements. This is the only thread I located, though a little dated. Is a solution available for today’s version of DNN? Instead of condensing the friendly URL, the preference is replacing the spaces with dashes:

Example:
www.mysite.com/sculptornamesculptorsurname.aspx
www.mysite.com/sculptor-name-sculptor-surname.aspx
