I am using DNN V5.1.4 and VS2008.  I am trying to make a custom module that needs to make use of Cascading DropDown lists.

I am really struggling to understand how to do this within a custom DNN module as all the examples out there of the  cascading dropdowns seem to not be used in a DNN module.  I have never created a webservice before, and see that there are several ways to do this (.ASMX, WCF etc).  I don't know the details of which is better/newer etc, but I just need a basic example that shows how to make a cascading dropdown list in a custom DNN module.

Can anyone show me , point me in the right direction etc?

Thanks in advance!!!

Paul,

please understand that cascading Doropdown list and web services are not connected.

Dropdown lists are controls in the UI level, while web services are part of the data layer.

please note, that anything possible in .Net framework can be accomplished in your DNN modules. I suggest starting with a module template and implement the cascading DDL in ascx or its code behind, according to your examples. you may also use JQuery clientside, though there are only few examples atm.

Regarding web services, please be more specific about your use case.
