I am implementing different subscription plans on PokerDIY and want to offer a free 1 month trial.

I have tried setting the role Trial Fee to $0 and the Trial Period to 1 month but new users do not get the role assigned.

I then tried setting it to AutoAssign (with the same Trial values as above) - new users get the role but it does not expire in a month.

I have read the help but it does not go into much detail.

How do I configure Roles to auto-assign to new users and expire after x months?

I would have thought this was a fairly common requirement?

 Hi Rodney

Oh dear - I need to do this soon too.
What DNN version are you using?

Its probably nothing but I have remember having problems assigning roles from a form I made as I used the wrong kind of control - think it was a check box.

From what you are saying any role that is auto assigned somehow sidesteps the role duration settings.
If you assign the role manually does it expire as expected?

I will have some time to test later this week.  I use the UCanUse user attributes module to provide different kinds of sign up pages and will also test with this.

HI Ian,

This is the first time I have looked at Trial roles so I am trying to find out how it is supposed to work and what it can do - I don't even know if this is how it is supposed to work?

It would not be too hard to put a trigger on the users table but I would prefer to use core tools if it is poss?

If I assign the role manually it does not add the trial.

 Hi Rodney

 Understood.

I will post my test results when I have done them.
I agree with you that this must be a common requirement.
You would think from the interface that it should work as we wish.
I wonder if it's the scheduler that checks roles for expiry dates?
