I setup public registration and configured the e-mail under the SMTP settings. I tested the settings and they worked.

When I did a test registration,  I got an error that the e-mail was not sent, but the account was created.  I did receive the confirmation e-mail with the code.  It came from admin@domain.com which was not the e-mail address I had setup under the SMTP settings.  I created an admin@domain.com account and then changed the settings under SMTP to that account.  It no longer gives me an error and everything is working.

I really want to use another address that I had setup for this.  It appears that the admin@domain.com is buried somewhere in the DNN but I can not find it.  I could use some help on this.

Thanks

Doug

I also have this same issue. I am running a brand new install of 5.02.00. The email server is being used by other DNN installs from another location so I know they are correct settings. These working DNN versions are 5.1.4 and 4.9.X.

The test SMTP also works fine on my system but gives the following error:

"There was an error sending confirmation emails - There is a problem with the configuration of your SMTP Server. Mail was not sent. There is a problem with the configuration of your SMTP Server. Mail was not sent.. However, your user account was created successfully."

I looked around but could not find any other posts with an answer. If one has been posted please put a link here.

Thanks,

Matt

if the test executes an issue, the sender email might not be of proper format, check in Host Settings for Host mails and in the user account of the admin user, specified in Site Settings.

Reposting my original post but with corrections to the details. The updates will be bolded. And I don't mean to steal from the original posters issue it just seems we have a similar if not identical problem.

I also have this same issue. I am running a brand new install of 5.02.00. The email server is being used by other DNN installs from another location so I know they are correct settings. These working DNN versions are 5.1.4 and 4.9.X.

The test SMTP settings link works fine on my system but gives the following error when registering a new person from the main register screen:

"There was an error sending confirmation emails - There is a problem with the configuration of your SMTP Server. Mail was not sent. There is a problem with the configuration of your SMTP Server. Mail was not sent.. However, your user account was created successfully."

I looked around but could not find any other posts with an answer. If one has been posted please put a link here.

Thanks,

Matt

test mail is sent to a recipient inside your organisation from the host email address above, while registration email is send to an external user from the admin email address, specified in his user data.

Make sure, admin has a valid email address and the SMTP server account is allowed addressing outside mail recipient (relaying).
