HI ALl,

I have set up Vendors and their corresponding banners in DNN 4.9.5

Trying to understand the report. The banner views seem to show about 3-5 times more than what other stats of the page say. I use Google Analytics, so comparing that to the views reported from the vendors banner does not even mach up closely.

Example if Goole repots 1000 page views, the banner reports 5000 views.

The banner is only on once on the page, cant see why the two differ so much

Trying to understand what views mean under vendors-> banners

Thanks

Robert

The impressions of the banners on DNN will be the exact times that a banner is shown (ie. it increments the DB each time).

Perhaps you have it behind a log on page so that the Google Anayltic spider can't get to it?

GA uses a number of different metrics - not just pageloads - maybe it is unique users etc?

Thanks for the response Rodney.

Here is the thing,

It's not ehind a login page.

Only one banner per vendor. All vendors exibit the same difference.

THe page role is set for wveryone to see.

It is on my blog page wehere everyone can view it.

THe GA code is on the page. Actually it is in the skin.

I just did a comparison.  For the last week on one banner for one vendor

DNN Banner views = 17,617

GA Page views (all pages) 2,871

As you can see a huge difference. Am I missing something. I can't believe that there is such a difference.

I'm trying to establish a basis of cost. If I charge the Client 17 617 views, thats a lot of money as compared to 2800.

ANy more help and insight to this is greatly appreciated.

I great difference between ddn counts ans google analytics counts is :

  • ddn : page requests
  • google analytics : javascript

and all the bots (google bots, bing, yahoo spiders, adsense, adwords spiders, ....) request de page but dont execute the javascript.

Because dnn dont segment counts by source, you cant compare dnn counts with google analytics count.

(the difference is very great for low trafic sites)

THanks Sacha for the report back,

But then don;t you think that this is then in error as far as the DNN banners are concerned. Should DNN really be counting bots etc.

I mean, how do I then send a report back to the client knowing that it is wrong. How do I charge and bill him. He could have had 60,000 bot page requests but only 300 actual human Page views. THere is no way of knowing.

How can this be fixed? Is'nt it a oversight by the module authors and programmers.

I would appreciate someone giving me an answer to the problem.

Thanks

Robert
