Hi William,

The anchor tag was added after I posted it in the forum ... it's not in the XML file.  DNN throws the XMLNodeType error during the upgrade to 5.1.4 while its trying to run the install script for this custom module.  The module worked and installed fine before the upgrade.  Is it a backwards compatibility issue in 5.x?  I had to roll the upgrade back so this host is still running on 4.9.1

If you are getting the exact same error (at DotNetNuke.Entities.Modules.Definitions.ModuleDefinitionInfo.ReadModuleControls(XmlReader reader)) as Foko during the upgrade of the site then the code you posted would not appear to be related to the issue which involves parsing of the <moduleControls> node of a dnn version 5 manifest file.

Also, if your custom module was already installed and working on the 4.9.1 site before the attempt to upgrade to 5.1.4, I would not expect the install script for your custom module to run as part of the upgrade.

Please post the entire error message including the full stack trace which you are receiving and if the error is occuring during the upgrade (rather than following the upgrade when browsing to the page containing the module), please post your entire dnn manifest file.

Ok ... I will need to attempt the upgrade again to generate the error message.  I'll have to backup everything and do a re-try.  Since it will require the site being offline for a short while I will do it later on in the day and post the messages then.  Thanks so much for your help!
