I am updating several DNN 4.9.4 CE installations to 5.2.0. All installations are setup in a web farm with, 2 IIS server and a single file store using UNCs. Upon upgrading one of the sites I noticed that BroadcastPollingCachingProvider was not running. From research I found that it has been deprecated so I switched over to the FileBasedCachingProvider in web.config. The FileBased Provider did not work as well. Also, I noticed that in Host settings the 'Is Web Farm?' checkbox was not checked and in the Scheduler there was no 'Run on Servers' textbox. From further research on this forum here is what I found?

  • In web.config the 'EnableWebFarmSupport' has been changed to 'IsWebFarm'.
  • In web.config the default caching  provider should be set to "FileBasedCachingProvider".
  • In the database there is a table called WebServers. A record will be inserted automatically for each server that accesses the application. You need to manually enable each server in this table.

With these settings the 'Is Web Farm?' is checked in Host Settings, 'Run on Servers' checkboxes appear in the Scheduler, and the files I expected to see in Portals\_default\Cache are created.

I brought up the site locally logged into the 2 IIS servers in the farm. I logged into the site on the first  server and made a change to a module. One the second server I refreshed the page and the change appeared. On the first server I again made a change and then refreshed the second server. The change does not appear. I closed the browser and opend it back up. Still the change did not appear. If I log into the the second server the change appears and I can go back to the first server, make a change, refresh on the second server, and the change appears immediately.

I may be mistaken but it seems to me that changes should appear whether you are logged in our not? Am I still missing something?
