Hi people

I am new to DNN. I am tryng to create a public site with AD membership. Can somebody please answer these simple questions.

  1. Can I set up a public DNN site (anonymous access) that uses AD as the membership provider? Please note people, m not asking the site to run under integrated authentication. Anyone can visit the site, but registered users can log in.
  2. Can I use the standard login module to login my AD user?
  3. Users will use an account number (from another system) as a username, can I do this with standard module or does this?
  4. When the user tries to register, I will create a new AD user. Is this even possible out of the box?
  5. From a page that may be outside of dnn (e.g. an intranet site), I would like to reset, block or register new users. Does the AD Authentication provider have sufficient API's for this level of control?
  6. If using AD can I have role based control over module visibility/functionality. I may want to restrict certian options to appear on modules say if a non admin user logs in?
  7. Can I modify the login, regisration module, as I may require extra fields?

I know that someone will be able to answer this at a professional level. thanks in advance, its my first look at DNN and I like it. especially the little (big) community you guys have going on!

1. Yes, I have about a hundred portals running like that right now.  Public can view the site, AD users can log in.  AD users log in automatically from the IntraNet, and can log in manually from the Internet.
2. Not the standard DNN login module, but the standard AD authentication provider.  Not sure exactly what you mean, but the AD provider does come with DNN.
3. The AD provider pulls the information from Active Directory.  So, whatever name they are using in AD will be the name in use in DNN.
4. Yes, but you have to enable the AD provider.
5. Yes and No.  I use Active Directory to create/modify accounts because that is what is doing the Authentication.
6. Yes, if you create a Security Role with the same "pre-windows 2000" name as a group in AD, the users will be synchronized.  You can also add AD users to the Administrator Security Role if necessary.
7. The source code is available if you want to customize it, but for most people the DNN registration system does thing sufficiently.  Check out the Admin->User Accounts->Manage Profile Properties and the Admin->User Accounts->User Settings menus to see what is possible.

If you have any more questions, feel free to ask.  I use it extensively and have about 100 portals in use by about 4000 accounts daily.  It works really slick and is very simple to use.
