I can't even get an install started on my server.  The server is 2003 Enterprise with SP2 and all updates, SQL 2008 Enterprise with SP1 and all updates and of course IIS 6.0.  I'm trying to install DNN 5.2.0

I've been using the install guide and tried multiple configs (as in...virtual dir in IIS with the dir being C:\DotNetNuke and with the dir being C:\inetpub\wwwroot\DotNetNuke, and by creating a "New Website" in IIS with the directory in those same 2 locations.)

When I go to "localhost/dotnetnuke" to begin the install...all I get is "page cannot be found" 404.

I have sucessfully installed DNN 5.1.4 on an XP Pro machine running SQL 2005 Standard with IIS 5

I know my IIS is working because I currently have a website up and running and being hosted on the server.

I've checked my web.config multiple times, I've checked and matched directory security multiple times against the current working website, and against my successful install of DNN 5.1.4 on the XP machine.

Is there anything I'm missing for DNN on this config?  (It just doesn't seem like it should be this difficult).  Admittedly I'm not and IIS expert...but I'm not really a newb either :)

Thanks so much for your help!

Check the web extensions option in IIS to make sure that ASP.NET is enabled. Also make sure that default.aspx is listed in the default documents.

Thank you Chris!

It was the extensions.  I guess they might be prohibited by default?  It's a fresh install of everything (OS...SQL...Visual Studio...etc)

Any reason any of those other extensions should be prohibited?  This servers role will be web hosting/sql website mainly.

That's just Microsoft trying to make sure things aren't turned on that don't need to be. Out of the box asp.net isn't enabled, you just have to enable it if you want to use it. Good for security, bad for usability if you need it but don't know :)
