I've FINALLY got my web.config set up so I don't get errors on it, but now I get the following!  Installing DotNetNuke on a remote server shouldn't be this difficult!  I'm ready to give up on DotNetNuke, which I really would like to use.

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.

I'd suggest upgrading to 4.0.3. A number of object reference errors were fixed.

I did a complete delete and load for 4.0.3 and got the same exact error message.  I am installing on discountasp.net and have a subfolder where the DotNetNuke stuff is located.

I'm a dotNet vb programmer and am quite familiar with this error when I forget the New part when setting up a variable, such as a Database, etc.

What is causing this error?

Hello:

Is your remote site a web hosting site?  Could you explain what you mean by having added the DotNetNuke stuff to a sub-folder?  You can do this but the sub-folder must be a virtual website which some hosting companies allow by letting you specify this folder as a "starting point".  Have you been able to successfully install this locally?  You may want to try this first, and then install fresh on your remote site.  From the information I see here the main thing I would check is that your are installation is copied to a website root folder.  You can easily check this by typing in your website address and viewing "403-3.gif", i.e. http://www.yourweb.com/403-3.gif .  Whether you've installed DNN or not, you can open this file in a browser "if" you're DNN files are FTP'd to the root or some web root folder.  You will see this gif file, http://dotnetnuke.com/403-3.gif.

You cannot give up yet since you've just begun.  DNN is easy to setup if you have done it before, just like anything else...Websites in general and the various technologies involved can seem daunting - actually, they are daunting.  DNN does a good job of getting you as close to the completed installation as practical.  Let me know how it goes and if I can help out any further.

Sorry John, but that is not true.

I try to install DNN 4.0.3 locally since 2 days and cant manage it even with severall install helping docs from here.

When I install I get first an ok:
http://www.binaerpark.de/picture_library/install.jpg

But then an error because DNN generates a folder "DestopModules" but the .ascx files look for a folder "Modules":
http://www.binaerpark.de/picture_library/Portal.jpg

After renaming the folder to "Modules" I get the following:
http://www.binaerpark.de/picture_library/Error.jpg
