I need to verify email addresses before sending out a bulk email.

How can I verify that the email exists on the mail server?  I've looked at the following code (http://www.15seconds.com/issue/030203...) which appears to do the verification of some address.  If the address is an "alais" email address it will return with an error.

Are there other methods?

sorry, but email verification needs to be done on registration or update of user profile, not during message send.

SMTP protocol doesn't provide a way to validate email address in real-time. as Sebastian mentioned your addresses should be verified before hand using a verification email or activation code that is sent out. you could check the structure of the address to see if that is in a valid form XXX@YYY.ZZZ but that should already be done by the framework.

I really wasn't looking to verify the syntax of the email address.  I want to know if the email actually exists. Connect to mail server and verify that it's a valid email address.

Yeah, That really isn't possible.
