I am new to DNN.  I ran through the installation process and it worked great.  What i would like to do though is take an existing site and port it over to DNN.  Is it possible without running the installation process and then "Creating" the modules and all from my existing site?  Can i just link to some dll's and add some simple code, or is it more complex than that?  Where can i go to get started (most of the get started stuff is based on creating a site from scratch).  Thanks in advance.

Instead of setting up a blank new DNN installation, you may also start with a copy of an existing DNN installation (there is a pinned post in the installation forum with some instructions). You cannot, however, convert a non-DNN site into a DNN site. you need to move over content manually - take the chance for restructuring and reworking your whole site.

One issue i have with the installer is it only gives me an option for SQL Server.  I need to create it using My SQL.

DotNetNuke requires either SQL Server or SQL Express.  There is a 3rd party option for Oracle, but I am not aware of an option for mySQL.

I had a similar issue where a site was created using classic asp and I needed to get a new site up a running.

There were many report pages that I was able to convert easily using the reports module ( or equivalent), but for the other pages, I used the IFrame module to link back to the existing page on the old site.  This gave me time to manually convert the page into a DNN module, or locate a module that would provide similar functionality. In fact I still have a few pages linked back.

As for the need for MySQL ... consider running the DNN site on SQL Express, and accessing the data that is present in MySQL with modules like Reports, or SQLView (www.dnnstuff.com) or SQLGridSelectedView (www.tressleworks.ca)

Hope this gives you food for thought.
Paul.
