I recently updated my site from DotNetNuke 3.2.2 to 5.2.2 and I managed to get things working.

There is only one thing I can't do as before... we use to have 2 data provider set up in web.config but when I tried to install DNN 5.2.2 whit 2 data provider the web site just stop responding during the upgrade, and if I try from a new Install it does not work either.

I was wondering if there is a way I could have 2 data provider since we have two database and we need the informations from them?

Hi MAthieu R,

I am having the same problem with dnn 5.1.3. I have 2 data providers and it works fine with dnn 4.9.0. But it just stops working if I do the same on dnn 5.1.3. Were you able to find a solution for this problem? If yes, please reply.

Thanks.

Abose

No, I haven't found the solution yet.

I had to modify every SqlDataProvider so it gets the connectionString directly and not by the dataprovider

ie. : _connectionStringData = Configuration.ConfigurationManager.ConnectionString("DataSqlServer")

Mathieu, Thanks for your reply. I am still trying to figure out why this does not work. It is almost as if, the DNN webconfig cannot be read when the other data provider element is added to the node. I dont know if you noticed, but this is also accompanied by a aspnet worker process crash (as evidenced in the eventViewer). I tried it on 5.1.3 and also on 5.4 alpha version, same result. I wish one of the dnn creators or experts would comment on this. Thanks. Abose

I am not aware, why a second connection string should stop DNN from working if it uses a different name. are you using legacy syntax (DNN3) in app settings or DNN 4/5 syntax in ConnectionStrings section of web.config?
