I am tying to create a cutom skin for DNN, but I am running into some problems (attatched i mage)

1. the first item has the mouse over it, notice the two lines one at the beginning one at the end WHY?
2. The other items have a "gray" box at the beginning, I have figured out how to oget rid of that color and set it so it looks as the rest of the item, but i cannot get rid of the space created there (fon an icon, wich it does not have)

However it removes the icons on all the submenu items even the admin and host menus, is there something else that can be done?

About the two lines, i seem to have figured them out. They seem to auto appear ehwn you do not set any background color to the item when the mouse rolls over it or you ser transparent color, but setting a background color (even the same as the subitems "container") gets rid of those lines.
