Hi,

Is there anyway of adding check-in/check-out functionality to DNN?  i.e. when someone wants to edit a page they have to check it out and this means other users cannot edit the page until the original user has checked it back in.  I potentially might have several users wanting to edit a page simultaneously and "last save wins" really doesn't cut it.  Hope someone can point me in the right direction because my searches haven't come up with anything useful!

Thanks,

Leon.

This is not a core function, and I haven't seen a module that provides this.  A number of them provide an accountability process, but I don't think any enforce integrity.

Thanks for your reply.  Is this a frequently requested feature?  I'd have thought it was essential for anything but the smallest installation?  As soon as you've got more than a couple of editors then they're going to start stepping on each other's toes without the ability to lock a page for editing.

I've requested it.  :)

I'm not sure this is a frequently requested feature, but it is an integral part of full-fledged content/document management systems.  If you need this type of control, I'd suggest you look at a different product, such as Sharepoint.  If you just need a content approval process, there are a number of third party modules that fill the need.

http://workflow.codeplex.com and the Community Version of DNN now support basic versioning. You are right - it is certainly does not offer Lock/Checkout functionality, but it puts the work on authors to merge content. I like the checkout (i.e., notify the world that you're intending to work on an issue) mode, but many recent source control systems (e.g., Subversion, Mercurial, Git) accept that many people will be working on updates and once and instead focus on making the merging of changes to be simple - or 'almost trivial'.
