I am a little new to the DotNetNuke community so sorry if this has been covered a million times. I have installed DotNetNuke on XP just fine. I am now trying to put it on my Windows 2003 Web Server and am running into a lot of funny things. When I first install it it works just fine. Then when I leave it's gone for good. I noticed in a few posts it mentioned that there needs to be some rights to install on the 2003 machines but I don't know what those are. Also I keep getting this error and I am not sure what it means or how to fix it.

Object reference not set to an instance of an object.

Any help here would be very appreciated thanks.

Windows 2003 does have different security setting than XP.  Go to my download page CLICK HERE and read my 4 page instruction guide to installing DNN 4.x on Windows2003 which should clear up any questions about using Server 2003.  good luck

I looked at your document and I have one questin for you.  I am using SQLexpress and not sql 2000.  How do I setup it up for that to work?  Everything else in the document has already been setup.  I am also using VWD to create the database.  Do I need to some how setup the permissions in that as well or should it work without this?

Ok here's another one for ya.  I can't help feel like I am taking one step forward and two steps back.  I got it to work by not using VWD until I had to restart my web server then it was all gone.  when it came back up this is what I got.

DotNetNuke Upgrade Error

The Assembly Version ( [ASSEMBLYVERSION] ) does not match the Database Version ( [DATABASEVERSION] )

ERROR: Could not connect to database.

Failed to generate a user instance of SQL Server due to a failure in starting the process for the user instance. The connection will be closed.

What does that mean I wasn't upgrading anything.  Has anybody else had this problem before.  What am I doing wrong.

Try connecting to your database using the username/password specified in the config file. I realize you've set it up already using this config, but the most common reason for this error (that I've seen) has been invalid login creds.
