Hi Mark,

Can you explain what you are looking for here? Just the TabID, from which someone could construct a full url? Or a link to another page on the website? You could in theory put a working link to another page on the site into the Location url. Just trying to understand what a TabID would provide as extra functionality.

Cheers
Roger

Yes, I think I can explain what I meant. Thanks for asking.

I have been using TabId on my own sites as the unit from which to orient navigation and content. A TabId refers to a page, but if the page is moved the TabId stays the same.

Pages are sort of the unit from which a website is created. In DNN the TabId is the ID of the page. This may all sound obvious and redundant, but I have found that using the page or TabId as a container works for a wide variety of content.

So in my roundabout way I am saying yes, a TabId from which a link to a page could be formed. Then you could put a map on that page. But you could also put many other things on that page, such as a redirect to a new window, a ticket purchase form, gallery from last times event, video etc.

I have a site with events. Events happen at locations and on my site each location has a page. But if I put my page url in the map url of the Event Location it get's lost as soon as I get Friendly Names working right.

Hi Mark,

If you know the TabID of the page you want to go to (which you must do, because you want to be able to enter it), you can still put the url using the TabID into the MapURL box rather than using the Friendly Name version. For instance both this http://www.thedivingclub.co.uk/Galler... and this http://www.thedivingclub.co.uk/defaul... go to my gallery page when I have Friendly URLs switched on (which I do).

Cheers
Roger

Well that is certainly good to know. I will be able to move forward with my current plans without waiting to get the frienly url's working.

But I think there is still value in Tabs as Locations. Consider moving a tab. With MapUrl we get a broken link. TabId provides a better pointer to a page on our own site.

Hi Mark,

My point is that if you enter the url with the TabID in it into the Mapurl, it will still work and won't break when you move the location page in your menu structure.
