Hi,

I'm trying to get a better handle on exactly what happens when a DNN portal is upgraded.  I understand that the application gets the latest record in the Version table and compares this to the DotNetNuke.dll version.  If the DotNetNuke.dll version is higher than the database version, then the appropriate SQL scripts are run to upgrade the database.  Am I right so far?

Next question - how does DNN know which "Optional" modules, skins. providers, etc. to install?  Is there some sort of manifest file in the upgrade zip file that tells the upgrade process what to install (i.e. other than the database scripts)?

Thanks in advance.

yes, we compare the version of the dll with the version of the database to do this.

regarding extra resource installs,it's actually simpler than that - during install/upgrade the folders within the install folder are searched through and any zip files are installed, whereas any .resources files aren't , but are available via the host ->extensions , install available extensions dialog.
