Hi

I am very new to DNN but I have some previous experience with .NET and AJAX etc.

Just wondering how to go about for example adding an ajax modal popup from a button with DNN.

For example in ASP .NET I would add <ajaxToolKit:ModalPopupExtender ......> at the top of the page, add some js calling Sys.Net.WebRequestManager to show and hide it, then I'd have my  <asp:ScriptManager > and <asp:UpdatePanel>with  <ContentTemplate> inside it,  all in the page.

How does all this happen with DNN?  Is ajax installed by default on DNN or do I have to add it somehow? I presume it isnt there since I can't see the DLL in the BIN folder on the website. My hosting people seem to be running version 04.09.02 if thats any help. Do I just add this ajax .NET code into a text/html module? Or create a control, upload it to the filesystem, and somehow call it?

Many thanks in advance, any pointers to how this happens in DNN would be much appreciated, I cant find any reference to it anywhere!

Cheers

Rob

Ajax is available for DNN in your version (can't remember exactly when we added support for it, been a long time). However, via Host Settings this can be enabled/disabled (for the 4.x version you are using). As for DNN 5.2 or greater, this is automatically on (and requires asp.net 3.5 being used too).

Now, to enable such things you need to add logic in your own custom module to take advantage of it. You should jump over to the Forge (which links out to CodePlex) to see if you can find some example modules that do this already. I know there is even a dnn 4.x specific project that demonstrates how to utilize AJAX.

Thanks Crispy,

thats a brilliant start, I'll have a look at the Host menu to switch it on and check out the Forge for an example

Cheers
