It seems hard at first but the learning curve for DotNetNuke isn't as steep as some of the other content management systems out there. So, I feel your pain but just hang in there and you might be feeling pretty good in the not-so-distant future.

The two things that got me really far in skinning are:

They aren't free but they are entirely worth it in my opinion. The library might even have that book.
