Adam,

In order for your new domain to work you are going to need to find a web host to use that will support DotNetNuke. Then you will need to backup and restore your site onto that web host's web servers. I assume you have it running on your local computer now?

There are a number of other steps involved but they can vary greatly by host. If you don't already have a hosting provider I both PowerDNN.com and IHostASP.net provide good DotNetNuke support.

You will also want to make sure you add the domain name as a portal alias in DotNetNuke before you do this. You can do so by logging in as a superuser (host) and going to the admin/site settings page for that portal.

Hi Chris,

Thanks for the quick reply. I dont have DNN on my local computer i have it hosted with Digiweb. This is also where i have my new domain hosted. I have also added the the new domain name as a portal alias. Im not sure if i need to point my new domain to the DNN instalation folder and if i do this will my new domain still be www.newdomain.com or www.dnnhostdomain.com/newdomain. Could you please advise me of any steps i need to take if hosting with Digiweb.ie

Thanks again Chris

Adam

I don't personally know how DigiWeb's hosting works, but generally hosting providers (with some accounts) will allow you to configure multiple domain names all using the same hosting account. If you have the ability to configure the domain to point to a specific folder then go ahead and point it to the root of the DNN website. As long as your alias is "newdomain.com" and not "dnnhostdomain.com/newdomain" you should be good to go.

Basically, your changes should all be on the Web Server and DNS side of things, pointing the DNS to the proper IP address, pointing the "host header" (domain name) to the proper application in IIS.

The only change on the DNN side of things is to make sure the alias is configured properly.
