I was getting the issue where users error out when they try to add a new thread so I decided to upgrade my forums module to version 4.5.3. After I upgraded (the install appeared successful), I now get the following error on the page: ( I am on DNN version 4.8) Any help would be GREATLY appreciated......

Error: Discussion Forum is currently unavailable.

Here's a couple of suggestions:

1. Verify that the assembly file DotNetNuke.Modules.Forum.dll that was placed into your site's /bin folder during the upgrade is of the correct version 4.05.03.xxxx. There is a possibility that the .dll of the same name from the older version did not get replaced.

2. Note that Forum version 4.5.3 requires DotNetNuke version 4.8.2 and above. You mentioned that your site was running DotNetNuke version 4.8. Not sure if you left off the build # or if you are actually running 4.8.0.

Questions:

1. How do I check that version number?

and

2. I only have DNN version 4.8,0.... So what problem would this cause? I don't want to upgrade DNN at this time.

on number 1. I checked the file version and it appears to be correct 4.5.3.xxxxxx.......

The forum module was actually compiled against DotNetNuke version 4.8.1 even though the list of module project downloads indicate that DotNetNuke 4.8.2 is the minimum version supported. The module manifest minimum version REGEX unfortunately permits installs on DotNetNuke 4.8.0 and above.

I'm not certain that installing the module into DotNetNuke 4.8.0 rather than 4.8.1 and above is the cause of your problem but know that such version mismatches can cause rather strange and otherwise unexplained reference errors such as your seeing.

Hopefully someone from the Forum module project team can add their comments to this.
