I'm a new to DNN but I have some experience with ASP.Net.  Last week I installed v 5.2 on a test server and for the past day or two spent some time reading what is available on this site to see if DNN will do for a company site.

For a community-supported tool DNN has a lot going for it - enough to make it a strong candidate. There are two areas that both I and my management find of concern: documentation and overall "fit and polish". The documentation available on this site is rather sparse and not up to date (most of it old, actually, and seemingly written by one person), and the overall feel of the site is clunky. For example, navigation requires a lot of going to a new page, search functions are rather basic, and the graphics are a bit ammateurish. These issues tarnish the perception of what may very well be a strong platform that could look much better . It may be that the Professional version fills in those gaps, but there seems to be no way to find out without buying it.

If there is better or more current documentation, I would very much suggest it be made freely available so that all prospective users can make a better informed decision about DNN. Regarding the style of the interface, based on what I know of ASP.Net and the overall DNN architecture it's quite possible to give this or any site a more professional feel. Perhaps it's time for the overall inteface design to "grow up" a bit.

We may end up becoming DNN users in spite of these limitations. Addressing them would, however, make it a much easier sell.

Milton, there are a number of books available about using DotNetNuke, skinning and module development, even recent ones. There are plans to upgrade UI (currently it is the same for community and professional) in one of the next versions, but be aware that this mainly addresses the admin, not the end users. If you sign up for a demo site, you will get DNN professional, besides there is a demo avail.

Cheers from Germany,

You can find many DNN books here in bookstores in the United States. You can also order many of them online, here's a link to the book I co-authored last year http://bit.ly/dnnbook

There are also a number of them listed on this page http://www.dotnetnuke.com/Support/Doc...
