Are there any free online tuorials for skinning?  I would like to measure the difficulty of skinning before I start buying books and upgrading my os for a development server.  I am an amateur html programmer, understand html, and css, but the projects I want to build are out of my scope.  I am hoping I can use the pre-built cms in the DNN and just skin when I need, and I would like to see if this is somethign I can takle before I start expending money.

There is a WROX book about beginning DNN skinning, but does that 2007 publication apply to the recent edition of DNN?

I would recommend PACKT Publishing's DNN Skinning Tutorial. (I believe you can purchase a PDF version of the book from the publisher's site.)

Too bad these files haven't been updated in several years, the skinning guide is v 1.0.0 from 2006.

If you're really interested in skinning you might also be interested in a product called Artisteer. It basically designed to help you make a skin (for Joomla, Drupal and DNN) and has an impressive feature list when compared to its license price. Anyway, I usually start off with Artisteer and then manually tweak it further to my liking. If you have a lot of skinning to do (more than say five skins), you'll find that using a product like this will save you a lot of time.
