Greetings

I have a question that is killing me! I use DNN 4 and VS2005 and SQLServer 2005. I've create some modules for some tables in my database (these modules are atomic, ie, just record and read info from a database table)

But now I need to build a module that uses many datatables, i.e, I need to read and write info to different tables, and I must edit/view the info on each table, in a separate way. This module I need to create uses 12 tables, and I don't want 12 modules but instead want to operate the info of the 12 tables on one module.

On DNN, the Edit page is for add/update/delete values from a table, and the View page is to select the values, am I right? But I to edit and view info from different tables on the same module? Must I create a Edit and a View page for each table I want to edit/view the data? Must I create a module to each page?? What is the approach for this scenario?

Thanks

Almeida

Almeida,

in general, a module can handle as many tables as you want to, e.g. either by using a join in the DAL or a table selector in the module. The basic question I would ask before is if you really need 12 tables - or can you create a general one, that is filled/read according to a type field.

Usually you need a couple of tables to store information about various object with relations i.e. customers - orders - order positions. If you have various objects representing comparable object (clients and vendors in an address database, rooms and technical equipment as resources in a reservation system, ...) it is advisable, to store them together in a single table.
