Can anyone tell me what the plan is with the Telerik wrappers. When I look at the AJAX library http://www.telerik.com/products/aspne... I see about 35 controls. When I look at codeplex, I find about 5 wrappers. Which controls are in the process of being wrapped? Are there controls that will not be wrapped? Are there controls in the AJAX suite that are not packed in the DNN distribution version?

It would be nice to hear about a timeframe as well (just asking).

Thanks for answering,

Peter

At codeplex you find a few skinobjects that use Telerik but in the 5.3.1 release have a lot more included.

You will find them in the DotNetNuke.Web.UI.WebControls namespace..

Peter-

I don't know much more than you but I will share what I do know.

  • The Telerik .dll that comes with DNN CE includes all of the Telerik Ajax controls.
  • DNN 5.3 comes with a few more wrappers but I can't find where I read about them now.
  • You can download the Telerik "trial" modules (not really a trial anymore since it is included in DNN) from their site. Telerik recently removed the trial .dll that used to be packaged with the trial modules so you can install in DNN 5.2+ and not have to change any of the .dll's.  After installing this you will have RADEditor, RADUpload, RADRotator, and RADCalendarEvents as modules.  There is also the skin objects (as a seperate install) that includes RADCalendarPopUp, RADMenu, RADPanelBar, RadSiteMap, RADTabStrip, and RADTreeview.  Since the Telerik .dll included in DNN CE already has all the controls what you are really installing here is Telerik built DNN wrappers.

Hope this helps.  I'm looking forward to more info regarding the new Telerik controls as well.

Thanks Jan and Greg for the pointers, Indeed the dnn web ui webcontrols name space contains a bunch of telerik wrappers. I understand that in CE you can't use the telerik controls directly, but need to use the wrappers, so my questions are still relevant. Peter

 peter,

AFAIK a developer CAN use the telerik controls directly, provided that they have a correct Telerik license for development. Such a license is included with DNN PE

from the Telerik DNN Partnership Q&A:

The table below shows the development and deployment scenarios and the restrictions that should be observed:
Developer Scenario Community Edition Deployment Professional Edition Deployment
Community Edition Developer creates Module using "wrappers"  Allowed Allowed
Commercial Edition Developer creates Module using "wrappers" Allowed Allowed
Community Edition Developer creates Module using Telerik RadControls directly Not Allowed* Not Allowed*.
Even though you  are running on Commercial Edition, the original developer do not have rights to develop the Module using Telerik RadControls for ASP.NET AJAX directly (because they were using Community Edition)
Commercial Edition Developer creates Module using Telerik RadControls for ASP.NET AJAX directly Allowed.
The original developer had rights to develop using Telerik directly (through their Commercial Edition license) so usage of the Module is allowed.
Allowed
Developer who has purchased a valid Telerik Developer License creates a Module using Telerik RadControls for ASP.NET AJAX directly Allowed.
If a developer purchased a valid dev license from Telerik, there are no restrictions on usage. However the developer is not allowed to redistribute the Telerik DLLs with their Module package - they need to exclude it and rely on the DLLs which exists in the DotNetNuke framework.
Allowed

*unless you are an existing Telerik customer and hold a RadControls for ASP.NET AJAX license
