I am moving from FrontPage software to DNN 4.09 on our public school website.
Our superintendent has a skin in mind from a site he liked. It offers a banner that pictures can be changed
to reflect our own activities (it is a short slide show).

I have looked at that website's source coding and perused snowcovered.com.
The source did not tell me a skin name. Snowcovered has some similar designs
but the pictures in the banner are static.  I am really new to this and need some help.

What do you suggest?

 Hi Sheila,

If I'm not mistaken, it sounds like you're looking for a slideshow module. After a quick search on snowcovered for "slideshow" it returned this page: http://www.snowcovered.com/snowcovere...

Once you have a slideshow module you should be able to insert that into any skin.

Hope that helps.

Aaron

That was helpful, Aaron! Thank you!  I took a look-through at the 100 that came up.

Here is the skin I am interested in because it looks similar to the one the superintendent liked:

http://www.snowcovered.com/Snowcovered2/Default.aspx?tabid=242&PackageID=14053

Here is the school website he saw and likes:

http://www.rrcs.org/

They have loaded a picture of their schools as a static banner with the slide show of current things running on top of it. So that is just a slideshow module set in place? Cool.

Would you mind taking a look at both of these links to see if I am on the right track here for a purchase?

Then I would just have to choose one of the slide-show modules to purchase with it, correct?  Is there a slide show module that would be best for what I want to do?

I really would appreciate your opinion. If I am imposing, please forgive and and just let me know. Many thanks.

Sheila

 Hi Sheila, you're very welcome.

Yes, that sounds about right.

Personally, I've only used one slideshow module but I find it works amazingly well. It's called DigRotate: http://www.dignuke.com/Modules/digRot...

There are a lot of ways to configure it (flash or javascript, transition effects, speed, etc). I've never had a problem making it work the way I want.

Anyway, with a little tweaking to the skin file you can have it running fairly easily:

  1. You would create a content pane for the slideshow where you want it to be placed (if one wasn't already there)
  2. Install the module and add it to the new Content Pane you've created
  3. Configure the module settings to your preference
  4. And then add content to it and you should be good to go.

This advice relies on you understanding how to edit skins and a bit of CSS experience. But it shouldn't be too hard to do.

Thank you, again, Aaron.

I looked at the DigRotate, and it looks very good.
Since I don't know one ss from another, I am going to offer it up to my admin
along with the skin I chose.

You have been very helpful, and I appreciate it.

Sheila
