Hello All, Is it possible to re-install the HTML / Text Module on an existing site without loosing any of the content in these modules. I have a site with 9 languages and about 40 pages in each language. As you can imagine loosing this content will be an issue. Any advice would be great. Thanks, Rajesh

Additional Info
I accidentally installed a fresh version of DNN 4.9 pointing it to the SQL Server DB over my existing site which sits on an Oracle DB. Realising this I aborted the install (I hope I did  ). When I then tried to browse to the site I am getting this error
DotNetNuke.Services.Exceptions.ModuleLoadException: The type initializer for 'DotNetNuke.Modules.HTML.DataProvider' threw an exception. ---> System.TypeInitializationException: The type initializer for 'DotNetNuke.Modules.HTML.DataProvider' threw an exception. ---> System.ArgumentNullException: Value cannot be null. Parameter name: type at System.Activator.CreateInstance(Type type, Boolean nonPublic) at DotNetNuke.Framework.Reflection.CreateObject(String ObjectProviderType, String ObjectProviderName, String ObjectNamespace, String ObjectAssemblyName, Boolean UseCache) at DotNetNuke.Framework.Reflection.CreateObject(String ObjectProviderType, String ObjectNamespace, String ObjectAssemblyName) at DotNetNuke.Modules.HTML.DataProvider.CreateProvider() at DotNetNuke.Modules.HTML.DataProvider..cctor() --- End of inner exception stack trace --- at DotNetNuke.Modules.HTML.DataProvider.Instance() at DotNetNuke.Modules.HTML.HtmlTextController.GetHtmlText(Int32 moduleId) at DotNetNuke.Modules.Html.HtmlModule.Page_Load(Object sender, EventArgs e) --- End of inner exception stack trace

Hence the question if I can re-install the Text/HTML Module for without loosing any content. Also is there a different one for Oracle?

Thanks,
Rajesh

Rajesh, I've been where you are now. I had a full backup of my site before the changes (files and database), and I ended up restoring from there.

Is the site still surving pages or not even that?

Hi Pieter,

The site is serving up the pages except for the Text / HTML module. So most of content in the pages displays the error in my previous post.

regards,

Rajesh

 Hi Rajesh,

I don't think I'll be able to predict what will happen when you reinstall the HTML module. Some tips I can give you:

- test in a safe environment first (e.g. localhost sandbox for example) so if it doesn't turn out to work you don't harm production

- make sure to install the same (older?) version of the HTML module as on your previous working portal (on the dnn site you can find the older versions as well as the lastest)

I guessing here, but I think your problem is that the data provider for the HTML module was overwritten.

(I hope for your sake that no other providers or things were overwritten as this could mean your site will be unstable or certain functionality will not work - as you experience with the HTML module.)

Generally, I'd prefer if you could do a rollback to before you had this issue... I'm sure rolling back will cost less time than installing a sandbox (probably  a couple of times) and trying to find out a fix (that might never make the site stable as before).

Rdrdz,

</P>
