I read the install guide and set the file permissions as set according to "4. Set File Permissions".   Unfortunately, I never could figure out what the deal was.  I finally got frustrated and gave Everyone full rights to the whole directory structure so I could get DNN installed and configured.  I now need to lock the security back down now that I have it working.  When I changed "Everyone" to just have read access, the only problem I have found so far is that when I try to upload a file I get the following error:

An Error Has Occurred When Attempting To Save The File [my_server_file_path]\Portals\0\images\testlogo.gif. Please Contact Your Hosting Provider To Ensure The Appropriate Security Settings Have Been Enabled On The Server.

I'm running under Win2000/IIS5.  The ASPNET account for both the domain and machine have full rights to the entire directory structure.  So does the IUSR_machinename account.

Any ideas or suggestions on how to fix this?

I guess nobody has any suggestions then.

I guess this question, like many other posts on this forum will remain unanswered.

To the moderators:  Don't you think that people would reply better if you didn't have to approve every post?  It kind of takes away from the commuity concept.  I'm sure that turns many people away.  Did you have problems in the past with people flooding the forums so that's why they require approval for each post?

For new people like me, it's pretty frustrating to see many questions that have no answers.

We can't just make everyone unmoderated immediately because there would be way to much spam.

Moderation is getting better every day.  We don't require many posts for someone to have moderation removed, so hang in there.

Check to see which user is actually the anonymous user of the website in IIS manager, it may not be ASPNET or IUSR_Machinename.

Also, make sure that user has read attribute rights on the root of the drive.

It was actually another name, but giving that account full rights had no effect.

After some more digging we found an error message in the Application Event Log that said the SYSTEM account didn't have rights.  Once we gave the sysetm account rights to the site's directory tree, uploading files now works.
