A quick search didn't return anything so...

Has any consideration been given to using

http://www.asp.net/ajaxlibrary/cdn.ashx

for some of the weighty JS libraries now seemingly ubiquitous on DNN? Like Jquery, I'd love the option to use their servers over mine.

I don't believe theres currently an enhancement request for this, but its likely something we'll look at. Please note, the site does need to be running .net 4.0 to utilise the CDN for Ajax (we already provide built in support for the jquery CDN - see host settings)

I did discuss this during one of my talks at last years OpenForce conference, heres the relevant bits:

Microsoft recently announced they will add a CDN for MS Ajax (http://weblogs.asp.net/scottgu/archiv...)
Currently MS Ajax resource scripts are extracted from the MS *.dll’s, but .net 4.0 will offer the option to set a property on the scriptmanager.
If you’re cutting edge and feeling brave then consider editing the AddScriptManager sub in Library\Framework\AJAX.vb , and add the following highlighted line
Dim args() As [Object] = {True}
SetScriptManagerProperty(objControl, "EnableScriptGlobalization", args)
SetScriptManagerProperty(objControl, "EnableCdn", args)

Thanks Cathal. At least it will be coming down the road.

Follow up question; has Corp considered approaching a company like http://www.netdna.com/ for CDN services for the rest of DNN core files? They host the jQuery Tools library for advertising credit so could be amenable to similar deal for DNN.

I've no idea I'm afraid. Personally I like CDN's, but there are some risks inherent for some customers e.g. some people cant use them because of traffic restrictions (internal servers with no internet access), and some can't use them for security (not allowed to let people know what type of site youre running, or what url), so it's not as easy as just switching them on. Work has to be done to ensure fallbacks work, cdn's are controllable (both as a setting and an installation configuration value) etc.

How might I be able to support the concept as a non-default host option?

More and more of my traffic is from the UK but they suffer slow load times because of heavy supporting files.  As a result, traffic growth there is signifcantly handicapped  - as would be the case for most DNN instances.  My need for a CDN grows monthly but I prefer to not use a Pageblaster style search-n-replace method for implementation.  I'd like more control over when and what is distributed.

It would serve the Corp and Community well if a safe and cheap (free for core) CDN concept was hashed out.
