I have installed and deployed 5 DNN portals in the past 2 months, all having the same characteristics.  They are all DNN 4.0.02 (1 was source-no problems there), installed on Win2k3 Servers with a SQL Server 2005 backend (also on a Win2k3 Server).  However, only ONE DNN portal is giving me this problem.

I have an intranet portal which whenever I try to insert an image using the file viewer icon in the toolbar of the integrated FTB3, I get a critical error instead of the usual file manager view in the new window.  Here is the error:

AssemblyVersion: 04.00.02
Method: System.IO.__Error.WinIOError

All the words in caps have been changed for obvious reasons.  Has anyone else experienced this problem and is there a solution?  I have tried moving the directory, copying the original (development) version of the site over the deployed one again, and verifying that all the files which are expected to be in the FTB3 directory are there.  I even tried an unsuccessful implementation of using the FCKeditor.

Someone please point me in the right direction...

AAAArrrrrgggggghhhhhh!!!!  I have tried everything I could think of to get this done!  I have cleared GAC, reset permissions, exported templates, reinstalled and upgraded the portal (I didn't notice version 4.00.03 until the other day), deleted and added the virtual directory, had the portal in the inetpu folder, moved the portal to separate drives, and I have adjusted IIS settings in various areas of the application and application pools that this portal was a part of.  There is definitely more that I have done, but I cannot remember everything right now.

In the end, the fix was very simple, but I haven't tried it until today because I didn't want to change this particular setting for what may be obvious reasons.  Once I created a NEW virtual directory with a completely NEW name, the Image Gallery function of the portal began to work perfectly!  This shouldn't have been so quick to work though since I have already cleared the GAC (which in theory is kind of the same thing), but it did.  So for those of you who were pulling their hair out and breaking various objects around your office or home, try this first.

I am now going to drink myself through the weekend for such an oversight.  If anyone sees me laying on the ground, please prop me back up against the bar so I don't get kicked out!  :)

Thanks a bunch.  I was having the same problem and removed the virtual dir. and recreated it and it fixed it.  I just wish I had looked before I leaped when I started over from scratch.  Oh well.

My condolences.  This a very weird problem.  It must also be very obscure and limited in frequency since no one contributed to the thread with any suggestions.  Oh well...  I am glad that I was able to help someone!  :)
