I have IIS6,aspnet2,sqlexpress.  web.config has been modified correctly. turned on all debugging options with iis, permissions ARE set properly, even 'scarily' gave IUSR full permissions briefly.  But still I get the message below.  I can't figure out how to correct it.  Do I need to put web.config in the root directory (it IS in the dotnetnuke root directory).  any ideas?

Server Error in '/DotNetNuke' Application.

more info:
the asp.net tab in the virtual directory's iis properties shows the correct path to webconfig.  but the tab in the root shows the wrong info.  Could it be that asp.net doesn't install properly?

Okay another update:
  on the win2k3 server, I got the install to at least get to a little different point by giving the <siteroot> directory the same permissions as the virtual 'dotnetnuke' directory.  I had to uninstall asp.net_v_2.... and reinstall  asp_regiis didn't do it.
however... new thread started.

ource File: d:\inetpub\wwwroot\web.config

- unzip  DotNetNuke in folder {d:\dotnetnuke}
-  In IIS 6 right-click on “Default Web Site” and select
New/Virtual Directory.  that points to this physical directory {d:\dotnetnuke}

I hope help you
Cheers

You need to give the 'NETWORK SERVICE' user the permission to read /write, not the IUSR_.... user.

It is stated in the installation documentation.
