Hello,

I have installed dnn in domain www.dummy.net, but it was installed as v4.x and has gathered some bugs and old modules etc.
I would like to make a new subdomain (new.dummy.net) and have it point to a fresh dnn installation.

The problem is when I go to new.dummy.net, it opens www.dummy.net and gives a module error.
Is there a way to do this?
Or is there a better way to do a fresh re-install?
thanks.

In my point of view, a fresh re-install begins with unzipping dnn install into a new folder and pointing to a new database.

I think you probably could only point to another database with the same directory because DNN will execute script to re-install new database.

In your case, I think portalalias entry redirects you to old URL.

Thanks for you reply, at first the portalalias for the parent portal pointed to dummy.net, so I changed it to www.dummy.net, but new.dummy.net still opens www.dummy.net I have mad a different folder for the installation and wanted to use prefixes for the dnn tablenames as I can only create one SQL Server database.

Hello, thank you for your reply, I made a new folder and unzipped the files there, but when I go to the subdomain, my parent domain intercepts and redirects the request (so new.dummy.net goes to www.dummy.net) At first I noticed I had the portalalias for www.dummy.net pointed to dummy.net, so I changed it to www.dummy.net, but that did not work. Unfortunatly I only have one database on this hosting plan, so I wanted to use table prefixes (I thought that was possible)

The problem is when I go to new.dummy.net, it opens www.dummy.net and gives a module error.

This is due to the DNS entry for new.dummy.net pointing to the same IP address as www.dummy.net and the fact that your IIS setup is not using host headers.  You want an entirely new IIS site as well as a new DNN installation.
