Hi, I have been using the RadEditorProvider from Telerik and been pleased with it.  It obeys the DNN folder security and individual folders per user.  The best thing about it for me, is you can set the parent folder to be a secure folder, then all user folders under it are also secure, which means the files are not retrieved by a normal file path but by file tickets.  This is critical for anyone having a forum or something in which non-standard file types are uploaded/shared, since files Windows does not recognize will simply fail and give an error if no file handler is used.

Now, I have upgraded a test installation to 5.4.1 and I am really hoping all those great features are still there.  I cannot see how to do it thought, in fact I cannot even see how to implement per user folders.  The images/documents etc on this forum are not working so I cannot see how it is implemented here.  Does the new TelerikEditorProvider not include the features that were available with the RadEditorProvider directly from Telerik?

Thanks,
Jason

please be informed that DNN 5.4 uses Telerik Editor Provider by DNN Corp, not by Telerik.

Yes thank you for the reply, I did realize that.  I was thinking it might be improved or at least similar, does that mean the DNN Telerik provider does not yet allow individual folders per user?  I hope this will not cause Telerik to stop developing their DNN provider.

So far I am sticking with the Telerik provider since it appears that the DNN provider doesn't have all the features such as per user folders, custom toolbars per page, etc.  The DNN provider does have a couple of features that the Telerik one doesn't - the ability to save templates back to the server is one.  I saw another but can't remember what it was now.

There was a thread in Telerik's forums that said they were planning on continuing with their provider as well but I kind of doubt that will be something we can count on long term. Hopefully at least till DNN adds all the missing abilities to their provider.

Good info thanks.  I thought I will post a solution to my problem...this only applies if you are using radeditorprovider, not the one developed by DNN Corp.  I found that the rad editor will allow you to upload files regardless of if the file extension is in the host settings list of acceptable upload extensions (the rad editor config file controls what can and cannot be uploaded) BUT if the file extension of the file you are uploading is not present in the host settings list, it will not create a secure file, so...when you publish a link to it, it will be using the regular file system, and not the file ticket handler, which means if the file is not recognized by the client OS it will simply fail...so the solution is simple, you must add acceptable file extensions to the host settings AND telerik config file.
