Hi guys,

Hoping you can offer some advice.

I bought module from SnowCovered by XP Idea LLC, namely their "Database and Site Backup Module" - claiming it works on all hosting servers (even GoDaddy!).

Anyway, installed fine - but when I run the backup process, I get the following error:

ERROR:System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: SELECT permission denied on object 'syscolumns', database 'vs20775_1', owner 'dbo'. at System.Data.SqlClient.SqlConnection.OnError(SqlException exception, Boolean breakConnection) at System.Data.SqlClient.SqlInternalConnection.OnError(SqlException exception, Boolean breakConnection) at System.Data.SqlClient.TdsParser.ThrowExceptionAndWarning(TdsParserStateObject stateObj) at System.Data.SqlClient.TdsParser.Run(RunBehavior runBehavior, SqlCommand cmdHandler, SqlDataReader dataStream, BulkCopySimpleResultSet bulkCopyHandler, TdsParserStateObject stateObj) at System.Data.SqlClient.SqlDataReader.ConsumeMetaData() at System.Data.SqlClient.SqlDataReader.get_MetaData() at System.Data.SqlClient.SqlCommand.FinishExecuteReader(SqlDataReader ds, RunBehavior runBehavior, String resetOptionsString) at System.Data.SqlClient.SqlCommand.RunExecuteReaderTds(CommandBehavior cmdBehavior, RunBehavior runBehavior, Boolean returnStream, Boolean async) at System.Data.SqlClient.SqlCommand.RunExecuteReader(CommandBehavior cmdBehavior, RunBehavior runBehavior, Boolean returnStream, String method, DbAsyncResult result) at System.Data.SqlClient.SqlCommand.RunExecuteReader(CommandBehavior cmdBehavior, RunBehavior runBehavior, Boolean returnStream, String method) at System.Data.SqlClient.SqlCommand.ExecuteReader(CommandBehavior behavior, String method) at System.Data.SqlClient.SqlCommand.ExecuteDbDataReader(CommandBehavior behavior) at System.Data.Common.DbCommand.System.Data.IDbCommand.ExecuteReader(CommandBehavior behavior) at an.a(String A_0, CommandBehavior A_1, IDbDataParameter[] A_2) at o.a(ObjectIdentity A_0) at o.a() at h.a(Stream A_0) at XPIdea.Backup.BackupProcess.a(Object A_0)

I obviously emailed XP Idea about this error, and they have been completely unhelpful. Their response was:

"Someone has denied the SELECT permission to one of the system tables. That permission is needed by our module to discover data structure and typically is granted by default.  Please check if you can fix the permissions to allow application to perform those type of queries. This should be mentioned in the product documentation."

I have no idea what theyre talking about. This site has been working (admittedly on 4.9.x) for the past couple years now without issue. Its just their module giving me this drama.

Can anyone point me in the right direction to rememdy? XP Idea just dont repond to tech requests for days (when at all) and as you can tell by their response, they're quite uninterested in helping out.

Any help appreciated!

Thanks guys! :)

Well there probably isn’t much the module developer can do as this error is a permissions issue with SQL Server. You will have to ask your hosting provider if your database user can have select permissions for the system tables.

Probably the best approach is to contact the vendor and ask for support.
