Personaly I have waited to use DNN with multiple languages for years now. I had not expected that C# should be the second language ;)

That's pretty funny, actually *grin*.  Jan, I think that you'll be pleased with some progress in the next version or two... watch for some beta's and a maybe a video blog from me.  The folks in Paris are getting an earful tomorrow (Day of DotNetNuke in Europe) about this too!

But the most intresting question I have is... Who is Ben ??

Ben is a community member from China who maintains a fairly low profile.  Turns out there are a lot of folks who don't "actively" participate in the visible portions of our community but who work with DNN a lot!  We've always known this, but every once in a while someone will write to one of us and tell us about what they're doing... Ben is one of those guys.  I'll leave it to him to determine how much he wants to share on his profile, but I encourage him to let folks know him better ;-)

So what's the goal from this C# mention? Just sending some informal kudos and awareness about the availability of the C# port from a non corp developer and business is  usual OR it's more serious than that and the corp might give it some formal business support?

Technically I don't care. I will use the C# version when I need to understand how something works in the core.

i heard that there were lot of voice to against this project because they thought "DNN is their VB's faith, when DNN also publish C# versions, it's mean that C# is better than VB".Actually i am very sad to saw these because that isn't the truth, i think it's absolutely same with every language, not only on VB.net and C#, also include java, php etc, that means we also can convert DNN to a php project. what we are doing is to make this project more popular, we have to know that every programmer have a lovest language, so please forget what's the language DNN is written by, but just believe that we all can update this project better and better, and more and more users can select it.

Hi Ben nice work!
Wonderful to have DNN both in C# and VB as as a code base to have a "live" reference when you need to learn how to do things.

Nice marketing move too by the Corp. Young people start with C#. And if somebody ask me what language the should start to learn I woud recomend C# too.

Personally I dont care if its VB or C# I make mistakes in both and I am starting to get used to all brackets.

However maintaining 2 languages will never work in the long run so if the Corp will be more productive in C# I will sugest them to switch as soon as possible.

I want to say thank you to Ben! Your effort in doing this is quite impressive! !

I am not going to say C#, or VB.Net is a better language then the other. The differences to me is mainly in syntax. A little semantics here and there as well maybe, however I think this may matter more if you came from a classic VB background before VB.Net. I myself have used VB since 16 bit VB 3 up to the current version. Once upon a time ago, in a rift of time before .Net 1.1 I bought a great book called C# VB.Net conversion pocket reference. I picked up C# in matter of days! Seeing the differences presented in the manner of that book made a seemingly rough task not so rough.

Anyway, enough story! This was all leading into (hopefully without being flamed from the VB.Net camp) me saying I prefer C# over VB.Net . C# Is just less wordy to me that's all! Maybe it has a little to do with me being introduced to Pascal before Basic too who knows? :) I do find myself adding semi colons sometimes when working in VB though.

There was some interesting points brought up between here and the blog post. The opening of DNN to a audiance who it was previously closed to seems to have already sparked some interest

The hot job market for C# devs, and Charles's point # 4 on recruitment should matter the most if it was decided by Corp to switch main development to C#.

On changing core code... I do not suggest at all you change core code!! I will also say that I have seen some core mods in the wild still! I even know of one that has grown along with DNN since the 1x days and is running close to current DNN 5x.

Anyway, just my .2 cents worth ;)
