I have installed DotNetNuke 5.4.2

I would like to switch from VS2008 to VS2010 and build my modules against .NET 4.

My module will create a .NET 4 DLL that will be installed in the DotNetNuke bin folder. Will I have a problem doing this?

DotNetNuke is a .NET 2.0 website, so can have I have a .NET 4 assembly in the bin folder?

Any help appreciated.

Regards,

Paul.

yes you can !
Edit your ddn website with visual studio 2010 and convert to .NET4 on editing website properties.

Do I just open the DNN web site in VS2010 and follow the conversion wizard, or do I have to build the site aftwards?

Also...... How will this effect updating the site to newer DNN release.

Is there a DNN .NET 4 install available?

Any help appreciated.

Regards,

Paul.

Do not use the VS conversion wizard; it will modify the web.config in a manner that will cause errors in DNN.

Instead change the app pool to target .Net 4.0 and DNN will make the necessary changes to the web.config for you.

.Net is backward compatible (with some exceptions), so if your modules require a .Net 4.0 specific method then the app pool will need to be set to use it, this will also be the case for DNN when the corp moves to this requirement, currently .Net 3.5 is required.

Ok, I think I get it.

All I need to do is.....

  1. Download and Install DNN
  2. Modify the AppPool to use .NET 4
  3. Open VS2010 and create a solution containing my DNN WAP modules
  4. Build my WAP modules in the normal way ie. Create install manifest etc.
  5. Install my modules using the zipped manifest etc.
Hope I got this right.

Regards,

Paul.
