Hi,
I'm playing around with html 5 canvas, and JavaScript for a simple space adventure game, like Weird Worlds, and was wondering what would be the simplest way to load the game up in a module?
1. For the HTML5 page to work, will DotNetNuke load the skin for the page, or can I just change the HTML DOCTYPE on an existing skin, or do I even need to, to get the Canvas element working in a compatible browser?
2. I know that there have been numerous module creation tutorials made, I'm really just looking for a way to call the JavaScript and Canvas element up. At least right now. Any suggestions?
3. In the future as my project matures, I would like to use the database to store much of the game information, but I'm not nearly there yet. So, at some point I'll have to create a module to handle the server side code, and I'm assuming that just like using flash or silverlight, it will be relatively straight forward to do so? JavaScript to ASP.NET.

Does anyone have any opinions on using HTML5 canvas, and JavaScript to produce simple web based games verses Flash and Silverlight?

Her are some observations on my efforts so far: This is a local instal of 05.04.01.

  1. I managed to get some sample HTML5 Canvas game code working by injecting the Js file in the module header, but couldn't get it to work in either the page header, or Will Strohl's Injection module. Maybe this is just a path issue. The path that works for the module is:
    <script type="text/javascript" src="/dotnetnuke1/Portals/0/jsplatformer2.js"></script>
  2. The sample game code would not play in Crome, but did in Firefox. However, it worked just fine in both browsers when running from the folder in explorer.
  3. Another piece of sample code ran in both browsers, but when clicking on buttons to change an image to rotate for example, it would start rotating, then reload the page. Hum?

It seems that while the code samples run just fine in Chrome and Firefox, outside of DotNetNuke, trying to get them to run from within DNN is doable, but will probably require the talents of someone like Michael Washington to work out all the issues.
