Hello All DotNetNukers.
I attended the Day of DotNetNuke Europe this weekend, and I am suffering post event blues as I type.
To be honest, I was not sure whether the event would be enjoyable, but I was really surprised at the camaraderie that existed. It was really pleasant and fun to meet people that I had either read of, or read of their products, or perhaps I did not recognize their faces but knew their company name.
The event itself was a high-end event, on a par, or better than 90% of events I have attended in the last 20 years. It was hosted in the MS building in Paris, with four fantastic conference rooms. After an initial keynote address by Mr Shaun Walker, we broke out into separate tracks, and the biggest challenge was choosing the sessions to attend. I overheard many people later on saying "oooh, I really wanted to attend that session but opted instead for this session". This was the way it went, it was just rich content, backed up by people that knew what they were talking about delivered in intense short doses.
Out networking sessions happend during the breaks, where we had wonderful coffee / tea / fruit juices and lunch was also a highlight. None of the miserable curly sandwiches, this was the best.
What was really great was that we all mingled and even the famous dotnetnukers, like Sebastian Leopold could be seen walking around mixing with mortals :)
I read on the back of the program that the executing team was, Sebastian Leopold, Benoit Sarton, Philipp Becker, Peter Donker, and Erik Van Ballegoij, so I want to thank you all personally, you put on a fantastic experience for all concerned.
As I said opening this post, I am experiencing Post Event Blues, it is things like meeting a guy in the elevator that looks vaguely familiar and when he says hello you realise that it is Lee Sykes from DNN Creative. Or seeing the guys from Data Springs. As I type this, I am sitting at my desk with a tee-shirt with big writing that says "I am not a Geek, I am a DotNetNuke Export". My kids were not so happy when I brought them to school wearing this, today.
If you have time, take a look at the DotNetNuke Europe site. You will see the new products that were launched, including the very exciting new skinning solution by Declan Ward of Dynamic Web Solutions. Please take some time to take a look at the site.
DNN Europe held a meeting on Saturday morning, and I would encourage anybody that is using DNN in Europe to join this organisation, you will feel comfortable that it is being run by nice ladies and gentlemen, that are commited to both open source software for the greater good of society, and also promoting commerce and profitability for your business. I expect that you will hear more positive and exciting news from the Europeans in the next few months.
See you all again in 2011 for the 2nd European Day of DotNetNuke.
