once a user clicks "checkout now" - they are taken to the checkout screen which has a list of required fields for shipping and billing
would it be possible to have the only required field be email address?
i have my store set up to use paypal so the user is taken out to the paypal screen which is outside of my app. the only real data i need is an email address but it seems the shipping requires name and adress but i don't need it since paypal handles that.

Hi James,

No you can't, the more simple way is to define those fields as required in the profile settings. Please follow these steps to change your portal profile settings:
  1. Login as Admin or Host
  2. Go to Admin > User Accounts
  3. Click on Manage Profile Properties at the bottom
  4. Define the following fields as required: FirstName, LastName, Street, City, Region, Country, Postal Code and Telephone.
  5. Click on Apply Changes
  6. Click on User Settings at the bottom
  7. Go to the bottom of the settings page and select True for both settings: Require a Valid Profile for Registration and Require a Valid Profile for Login
  8. Click on Update

Those fields are required because you need them not only at checkout but also for the order. Moreover, they are transmited to the Gateway Provider. If your customer do not have a PayPal account his address will be already filled at PayPal!

We (team members) are Humans offering their knowledge, their work and their spare time FOR FREE to benefit the community. It would be so particularly appreciated that your messages begin with "Hello" and end with "Thank you" or any other form of politeness. Ask yourself what your reaction would be, if you were approached by me (a total stranger) on the street to ask you something without saying "Hello" nor "Thank you"? After several years of services dedicated to the community, I begin to be tired to read requests without any form of politeness.
