I'm on my performance crusade using YSlow and am trying to understand how Enable Skin Widget works at Site Level. I don't quite understand what a widget is and if I use them (I don't think I have any?) but am I right in saying that this setting also drives the Enable JQuery Registration?

If so - it would be good to have this at Page Level instead of Portal level. I have many pages that don't use Jquery and many that do - it would be nice to define this on the Page Settings page (inherited from Site Settings) to prevent an extra HTTP request and more unneeded .js.

I know you can remove it using skin objects but I have about 8 skins and that would mean duplicating them all with a "NoJquery/Widget" skinobject.

Thoughts?

AFAIR Nick blogged about JQuery and the Skin Widgets, there are 6 Skin widgets included with DNN, like a style scrubber, flicker gallery etc. Will Strohl has some documentation in his blog as well. AFAIK, JQuery is always included and initialized when used on a page, not necessarily requiring a skin widget.

Yes, I was reading his blog about that - so basically if I don't use any skin widgets but I do use JQuery I can turn this setting off to stop the initwidget.js being injected and all Jquery mods will still work...

No, I just tested it - is IS driven off this setting. I turned it off and I have the Jquery slider on the homepage and initwidget.js is not included (good) but the Jquery link isn't either...

It would be good if these 2 settings could be separated as I don't want widgets but I do want Jquery...

Quick fix in the meantime was a PageBlaster rule to remove this extra .js

< rule>
                        < ruleName>Remove initWidgets.js< /ruleName>
                        < searchFor>]+>]]>< /searchFor>
                        < replaceWith>< /replaceWith>
                    < /rule>

(remove spaces)
