I have a client that is still running DNN 3.3 and wants to upgrade it. What is the upgrade path from 3.3? Can I upgrade directly, or do I have to do in incrementally?

The way I have done this in the past is to update through the major releases of DNN 3.x (3.4.x, 3.5.x, etc), then 4.x, then 5.0.1, then 5.1, 5.2, etc.  The biggest gotcha is not DNN but the 3rd party (and sometime even core) modules that may not be compatible with DNN 5.x/non-3.x DNN...  Test the upgrade one a backup site before doing on the live site and keep a clean backup just in case the live does not go as well as expected...

Sorry Robert, but there are preferred upgrade steps by experience (excluding 3.4 and 4.5, which have been never released): 3.3.x -> 4.3.7 -> 4.4.1 -> 4.6.2 -> 4.9.5 (-> 5.4.x) Note: - start with a full backup of files and database - during the upgrade check the log - after each step test the site to be running well - upgrade steps from versions below 4.6.2 require manual adoption of web.config - you may follow my upgrade check list (see http://www.deutschnetnuke.de/AboutDotnetNuke/V3V4TippsTricks/Upgradedurchführen.aspx) - prior to upgrading onto v 5.4.2, you need to upgrade or uninstall XML/XSL and Chat module
